I took the boat painting below, which I had painted before and slowly added background. This was my progression.

This is really interesting, seeing the progression of your work. The end result is great. Love the color!
Really interesting to see the steps you made. This gives me even more appreciation for oil painters!!!
It’s so much fun to follow your progressions from day to day. It’s like crawling into the artist’s head! I found the progress from #3 to #4 was particularly interesting. At one moment you poured in the warms, to ultimately adjust them to a wonderful balance the next day. Great imagination in coming up with that surrounding… Is that from memory or simply out of your head? Now, if you can tell the difference you get an extra wow!
It’s is such an interesting way to follow your progression. It’s nice to have a record, rather that just forget what came before. The end result is really nice.
First of all, I love the warm glow of the original painting, as though a sunbeam spotlights the lone boat. In the finished painting, I’m drawn to the contast between the rough sea in the distance which you captured so well, and the little boat resting in a calm, protected area near the shore. Great job!
Cool, this is really neat to see. I like the feeling of a warm day and the sun on the cliffs.
