Happy new year to all!
I’m trying to participate in the challenge by doing three drawings or paintings each week . This is my latest and last revision from a class I took . I loved the colors but couldn’t duplicate them . I am doing acrylics in a trial by error method , still, learning more each time I use them .
Have a wonderful day , Gemma
It’s hard to duplicate colors sometimes and it can be fun to just go with what feels right. Also I find when I switch mediums even when I use the same colors for my palette they don’t always look or mix the same and it’s part of the learning process. Have fun.
Les
I agree with Les. Matching colors is very difficult. You ended up with a beautiful painting though, so maybe the result is what comes through you and onto the canvas. It’s lovely!
I really like the undulating shades of blues and purples. Your swirling negative spaces around those yellow greens is compelling and really sets them off.
If the painting on the lower left is what you’re reproducing, I like the colors in this more.
I like your colors better, Gemma. Your darks are nice and punchy, too. This feels like a wintery painting to me.
Your painting has a n ice strong feeling to it. There’s also lots of energy and movement in your brushwork. Acrylics dry darker and to me it seems even lose some of their color when they dry, but they are forgiving in other ways. I look forward to seeing what you do with them. I’ve let go of trying to get a finished painting but am just playing around and seeing what I do and don’t like.
I’m so glad you’re doing this!
I too enjoy the swirly patterns in the negative space throughout your painting. They give your painting such movement. It seems like you are tackling acrylics and color quite well! I struggle when trying to reproduce colors too.
I like the movement that your brushstokes have created, as well as the color variation. It has a Van Gogh quality. And the yellow patches on the leaves are so nice, as well. The painting has perfect tree energy!
