My challenge this summer is to do 30 small gouache studies. I don’t know where that will lead me.
With my Plein Aire painters, I am planning on focusing on the concept of studies. I want to nurture an attitude of thinking a bit, then just “go for it”. We’re packing light and traveling to different locations this year, exploring….and having fun, Gouache and watercolor seem to lend themselves well to this.
I hope you all have a wonderful summer. I look forward to seeing of your work…Paint on!
Small studies are great and this is particularly nice. Have fun.

You have some lucky students. I wish I could study with them. I look forward to seeing your studies. Happy summer!
This is such a beautiful composition and as always your colors are clean and crisp. I agree that your campers are so lucky and I’m sure you know how much you are enriching their lives! Have a creative summer and thank you for keeping us all connected through art.
I just love the texture and colors of the rocks and the patterns, shapes in the water. It feels as though it may have been a windy day for some reason, there’s movement in the painting! What a great summer’s project.
This is just gorgeous Susan! It looks like a thousand different tiny specs of color in the sand and rocks! I love the different brush strokes and shapes. So beautifully painted! Your students are so lucky to have your mentoring over the summer. I can’t wait to hear all about your adventures with them. I’m also very happy and lucky to be right next door to you for two whole weeks and hope to see you every chance I get! XO
