This is another Sargent study ( head of one of the daughters in his ‘daughters of Edward darley boit’). Still working on flesh tones. They have more ochre and white than one would think. I’m trying to get used to arches oil paper. You can walk away and build up layers which suits my sporadic schedule . It takes lot of medium so I’m using linseed oil. Hope to get outside soon!
Great study, looks like you’re really learning a lot.

When I first saw this I immediately thought, “Sargent”, so I think you got it! I really enjoy it when you explain your process and the things you find challenging. Your work looks very polished, but still free and loose. I especially love the eyes!
I love looking at the color and value changes in this painting. Sargent is an excellent teacher! I wouldn’t have thought that there would be so much coolness in the light… and rich warmth in the darks. Yellow Ochre… Thanks for sharing your observations.
It’s so interesting to see how many value and color changes you have just in the face. Also, the eyes are amazing! This has to take a huge amount of patience and study to do.
Wow! I am just blown away and your talent Margaret! This is incredible! I too love when you shared your process and the type of paper you used. I’d never heard of it. It does look like this would take a huge amount of patience. Bravo!
