This week was all about values. Our assignment was to create a value scale and then we painted over a photo copy of a picture printed in black and white to practice values. It was a good exercise, getting value right is so tricky! My picture is of La Jolla Cove.

Great assignment, good way to see the values.

Values!!!!!!!!! I think I’ll spend the rest of my life trying to understand them. You succeeded, this is a very nice study
This is just amazing! The brushstrokes are so passionate!
You nailed it, the more I look at this the more your values and shapes define the scene. Nice loose brushwork.
I agree with the above, and it sounds like you’re learning a lot from the class. Very striking study!
What a great way to study values. I also love the way you did the study… all those delicious brush strokes…
You’ve used lots of variety in your shapes but still kept the integrity of light and dark. I really like the looseness of your brushwork…not so easy with acrylics.
It looks like you’re having fun! Are you liking CVP? They throw a lot at you, but I think they’ve improved it from last year.
Hi Sharon! I agree they throw a whole lot at you! I’m soaking it all up though and devouring every exercise, call, and video lesson. I can definitely see myself going back through it all at least a few times while we have access for the entire year. There is just so much information that I’m sure going back through will bring forward so many things I missed the first time around. I am definitely enjoying it all so far and feel like I’m learning a lot. I hope you are enjoying it this time around. You will have to let me know what you think of it, I’m glad it has improved from last year.
So glad you’re liking it. I’m really liking it as well. I never went through it again last time around but more seems to be sinking in this time. It’s just a different way of teaching the principles which I really like,. It’s something you can take more than once and keep learning. I haven’t been keeping up with all of the excercises as well as I’d like, but will keep working on it. It does eep you painting!!
