Probably one of the last winter scenes this year. Amish cutting ice near Palmyra,Maine. I love how the poor horse is resting. They make them work so hard driving on those paved roads .

This is wonderful! Your paintings so often tell stories, and this is a beautiful example of that. I didn’t realize they cut ice blocks like that. It makes a great painting.
I agree this is wonderful. I can feel the cold and the labor and the reminder of a different lifestyle.

This is great, I’m immediately drawn to the darkest darks. To me it brings out the richness of the beautiful red chestnut color of the horse.
This is wonderful! I love the storytelling element of the painting. Your strong darks and blue green/ orange/reds make such a compelling composition. Your design is strong as well. Frame it.
I also think this is wonderful. I love the contrast of dark and light. The touches of turquoise are beautiful. You can feel the heaviness of the work.
Before reading your comment I wondered what inspired this painting which seems from a distant past. I had no idea there was an Amish community in Maine. It is a beautiful painting. The colors feel soft yet I’m feeling a frozen chill from the ice, and too feel the heaviness of a long days work.
I agree with you regarding the horse, I feel badly for him, as well. That’s where my eye traveled initially. You expressed your feelings perfectly!
