- So for this week, I chose to make my watercolor pretty similar to last week, because I really loved the composition of it. So for this week, I just recreated it and removed some of the things I didn’t like, like the flower patches and the grass pattern and also changed some colors like darkening the mountains, making the pond water bluer, and using different shades and tones for shadows and such. I also made a notan, which I used as a base and branched off from because I thought I wanted to do the pond on the left, but really liked how it looked on the right.

I like the notan and how it simplifies the work. I also like the pond better on the right

The notan has such strong values and shapes. I like the pond on the left in the notan.
These are lovely. I also like the notan. Don’t you enjoy being able to move pieces of a landscape to where you’d rather have them? I put a guardrail in a painting once and the teacher said “ it’s not really helping. Why don’t you leave it out?” How liberating is that!
