Found picture #2 in a pile and I wanted to bring the sunset over the entire picture.

This is very dramatic and beautiful. I’d say you definitely succeeded in changing the sunset. I also like the foreground grasses very much. Both pieces make me feel peaceful.
Beautiful rich colors in your redo. The deep colors give a sense of drama to the painting. During the summer in Maine, there is a time at night, far after sunset when the lake gives off one final afterglow for the day…. You got it! I’m guessing it was on the Cape however…
I’m drawn to the birds, as well. They warm my heart.
The landscape in the second one seems more rugged. It looks like a boat in the distance heading home after a long day of fishing.

#2 is my favorite, I like the softness and merging of the colors, nice to see the birds again.

The colors in #2 are very soft and effective in showcasing the the sunset. You succeeded with your intention!
