Just a few quick sketches and a painting I did. The Tarbell ‘Josephine knitting’ was the most interesting . I began just simplifying the woman but became fascinated by how he framed her with a series of doors and windows. You can’t tell from the sketch but the composition is brilliant.
Prayers to all those in California.

Margaret,
I have to say that Baxter is my absolute favorite, wonderful capture of the moment.
The snow scene wants to take me down the path and feel the quiet.

My favorite is the painting. You always get such great color. The sketches are lovely too. Something I should do more of myself. My favorite sketch is also the Tarbell.
Your painting is gorgeous… The vibrant color makes me feel the coldness in the air!
I see what you mean about the Tarbell study. I looked at the original as well. the framing of the doors and the paths of reds are as you said, brilliant! He really carries your eye around the painting!
I like the painting the best. I can almost breathe in the cold crisp air! I do like the drawing too, as I don’t do it enough…. I like the cup, spoon etc.
The painting is beautiful! You’ve captured the essence of a crisp cold winter day in the snow with your incredible colors! The strong confident hatching is very appealing.
Your painting is gorgeous! I definitely feel the cold air and snow on a beautiful hike. Makes me feel like I’m right there in the painting! Love it! Your sketches are wonderful!
We are all safe from the fires in San Diego. Having lived in Pacific Palisades years ago, it is just unimaginable the totality of destruction these fires have caused.
I love the painting, as well. It stimulates all senses. I feel the coldness, the stillness and the beauty of the surroundings.
